Young Sindhi Adults (YSA) began as an Internet based discussion group in August 2001 with a handful of curious young Sindhis in their 20’s and 30’s. We are descendants of Sindh, a prominent state in pre-partition
India that was later bequeathed to the newly created Pakistan in 1947.
The birth of Pakistan led to the migration of many Hindu Sindhis over the country’s borders and the ultimate dispersion of our community worldwide. Sindhi families left all their possessions behind and had to re-build their lives elsewhere. Through their strong work ethic and business acumen, most Sindhi families have now established themselves on firm financial footing and successfully integrated into their environments. However, it has come at a very high price – primarily due to the circumstances surrounding partition, Sindhis of our generation face an ever-widening gap in their knowledge of
our cultural heritage and in their practice of the Sindhi language.
Our aim is to understand the cultural legacy we have inherited and to explore the issues that face our segment of the community. We cannot appreciate Sindh much less the immense contribution of the Mohenjo Daro to the world’s civilization unless we learn about it. To date, membership has grown to well over 700 members worldwide, all actively participating in web-based discussions and constantly searching for new articles and
information to share with one another.
